About the Environmental Leadership Programme

A large group of people are stood down an outdoor wooden staircase, and gathered in front of the foot of the stairs. The staircase descends down the side of a brick building. The group is a mixture of men and women from differnt backgrounds, all dressed in warm clothing and smiling at the camera.

The Programme

About the Environmental Leadership Programme

The Environmental Leadership Programme is a FREE programme for 18–25-year-olds based in the West Midlands. Running from October-July, it consists of both online and in person sessions. The aim is to increase your connection to nature and provide the development of important environmental leadership skills.

Throughout the programme, sessions are designed to enable you to build the skills and knowledge you need to understand green leadership and what a future career in the green sector might look like.

Guests and speakers are invited on to the programme regularly so you get to hear first-hand from those with experiences in the sector and have the opportunity to network.

Time commitment

The programme is hybrid and flexible in nature. Sessions are recorded and can be watched back, and we offer plenty of opportunities to connect in-person at events.

How it works

Online sessions: every other Tuesday evening, from 18:30-20:30
In-person sessions: roughly twice a term, with dates and locations shared in advance and travel support provided
Our community: we use Discord to create a fun and interactive online community, allowing you to get to know each other and socialise throughout your time on the programme and keep in touch between sessions.

All in-person session dates are shared well in advance and support with travel is always available!

The Programme is free!

There is no cost to take part, and our dedicated team are on hand to ensure you are fully supported to get the most out of your experience, including a pre-programme check in to make sure you have everything you need and answer any questions. Financial support with travel to the in-person sessions is always available!

How to apply

The next application process will open in 2026. You can join our mailing list to be the first to hear when it opens.

Your Programme Journey

Term 1 - October to December: You're welcomed to the programme with important knowledge and skills sessions, exploring the themes of Leadership, Nature Connection and Community Organising. You also have lots of opportunities to meet in-person, with the programme's Launch Day, and your first Campaign Day, where you'll begin brainstorming ideas and forming your campaign groups.

Term 2 - January to March: After a Winter Break, we come back to continue campaigning with your second Campaign Day, before kicking off campaign delivery, all supported by our team! Your skills sessions also continue to support your campaign delivery, with sessions that focus on Impact and Evidence and the Theory of Change.

Term 3 - April to June: Heading into the final term, we look at the Green Sector Landscape and explore the scope of green jobs that exist, making sure you're ready for whatever your next steps may be! We also acknowledge the inequalities of the sector and how to address those on a small and large scale, and give you the chance to put your local and national leaders to task with a trip to Parliament.

July - End of Programme Festival: Come together to celebrate the end of your time on the Environmental Leadership Programme and recognise all your achievements over the past 9 months!
